A Blend of History and Modern Luxury
Situated in the historic city of Coimbra, known for its ancient university and rich cultural heritage, Quinta das Lágrimas offers a unique blend of antiquity and contemporary comfort. This estate has a storied past, linked to the legendary love story of Prince Pedro and Inês de Castro, making it a place steeped in romance and history.
Upon arriving at Quinta das Lágrimas, guests are immediately taken by the extensive and meticulously maintained grounds, which promise both tranquility and beauty. We opted to stay in the modern wing of the hotel, located conveniently above the spa and fitness area, and doubling as a conference center. For future visitors, it’s essential to specify your preference for a historical or modern room when booking, as the experience differs significantly between the two.
While the check-in process was more time-consuming than anticipated due to limited staffing and a consequent queue, the overall service throughout our stay was commendable. The hotel staff treated us with utmost respect and professionalism once we were attended to.

The spa and pool facilities at Quinta das Lágrimas are visually stunning, highlighted by a pool clad in elegant dark tile. However, this aesthetic choice does somewhat mask the pool’s cleanliness, as the dark tiles make it hard to discern the water’s clarity, which was unfortunately not up to standard due to insufficient filtration and circulation.

Dining options at the hotel cater to a range of tastes and occasions. The upscale restaurant offers a sophisticated menu that showcases the rich gastronomy of the region, while the more relaxed bar setting provides a casual dining experience with an array of satisfying dishes.
Overall, our stay at Quinta das Lágrimas was a memorable one. The ability to book this exquisite hotel using Hyatt points also made it exceptionally worthwhile, offering great value for a luxurious escape in one of Portugal’s most enchanting cities.
