In May 2024, I embarked on a memorable journey to Acadia National Park. My adventure began with a hike around Jordan Pond, a serene 3.3-mile loop that offered breathtaking views of crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush forests and majestic mountains. The tranquility of Jordan Pond was the perfect introduction to Acadia’s natural beauty.

Determined to take in as much as possible, I decided to ascend the rock face to see Bubble Rock. Despite being only 750 feet above sea level, the ascent and descent were quite challenging for an inexperienced hiker like myself. The rock scramble was a true test of endurance, but the sight of Bubble Rock perched precariously on the edge made it all worth it. The panoramic views from the top were nothing short of spectacular, providing a rewarding sense of accomplishment.

Accommodation: Hampton Inn Bar Harbor

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Bar Harbor, which was conveniently located just a few steps out of town. The hotel was extremely clean and modern, providing a comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. While it lacked the luxury of some accommodations, the extra space and quiet atmosphere made it a perfect choice for our stay.

Driving the Park Loop Road was an incredible way to see Acadia’s diverse landscapes. We made stops at Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cove, each offering unique views and photo opportunities. The beaches and coves along the loop were mesmerizing, with their rugged beauty and tranquil surroundings.

A drive up Cadillac Mountain was another highlight of our trip. The view from the summit was unparalleled, offering a sweeping panorama of the park and the surrounding islands. Reservations are required to manage the crowds, and while it was busy, the timed entry system kept it from feeling overcrowded.

Dinner at the Reading Room Restaurant was a highlight, with its beautiful view of the bay enhancing the dining experience. Unfortunately, our meal at a French restaurant did not go as well, resulting in an unpleasant bout of food poisoning.

Sunday blessed us with beautiful weather, allowing us to fully appreciate the park’s vibrant colors and stunning vistas. However, by Monday, the weather turned colder, casting a darker, more somber mood over the park. This change in weather provided a different, yet equally captivating perspective of Acadia. The misty, overcast skies added a mysterious and moody atmosphere to the landscape, showcasing the park’s diverse character.
