I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium, a highlight of my journey down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco. Nestled beautifully along the rugged central California coast, this world-class aquarium not only offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean but also serves as a gateway into the mysterious world beneath its waves.

Inspired by the rich marine life I was about to encounter, I was thrilled to learn that this very aquarium helped inspire the animated world of “Finding Dory,” adding a touch of cinematic magic to my visit. One of the standout experiences for me was the mesmerizing jellyfish exhibit. It’s touted as one of the best in the world, and it’s easy to see why. The way the jellyfish floated so gracefully, almost dancing in their tanks, was simply hypnotic and beautifully displayed.

My afternoon at the Monterey Bay Aquarium was both educational and enchanting, highlighting the importance of ocean conservation while allowing me to get up close and personal with its diverse inhabitants. After soaking in all the marine wonders, I had the option to continue my journey southward towards Big Sur along the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway. However, I decided to take a different route. I headed to Salinas of Steinbeck fame and boarded the Coast Starlight train, setting my sights northward towards the lush landscapes of Oregon and Washington. This change in my itinerary allowed me to experience the dramatic shift from coastal views to the verdant, expansive vistas of the Pacific Northwest, providing a whole new perspective on the scenic diversity of the West Coast.
