We arrived in Milan during Fashion Week, when the city feels like it’s dressed to impress. Runways, pop-up events, and camera flashes spill into the streets, and even everyday cafés feel charged with energy. For lovers of style, this is the heartbeat of Italy’s fashion capital; for everyone else, it’s still a fascinating show to witness.

Staying in Style

Our base was the Park Hyatt Milan, freshly renovated and gleaming with marble. The design balances modern elegance with a sense of classic grandeur, offering a calm retreat just steps from the city’s most famous sights.

Icons of the City

We walked through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, often called the world’s first shopping mall. The soaring glass dome and mosaic floors are undeniably beautiful, but the shops inside are mostly the same major international brands you’ll find in Paris, New York, or Tokyo. Still, it’s worth a stroll—if only to look up.

The Duomo, by contrast, is unlike anything else. Its spires and statues seem to defy gravity, and standing before it you feel both dwarfed and uplifted by centuries of craftsmanship. Inside, shafts of colored light filter through stained glass onto worn stone, a reminder of Milan’s place in history long before fashion shows.

Even the city’s train station is impressive: Milano Centrale. It’s not just a hub of movement but an architectural statement, monumental and bustling with travelers. Standing in its cavernous halls, you understand how Milan connects not just Italy, but much of Europe.

For Fashion Fans—And Beyond

Milan shines brightest if you care about style. Prada, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana—the names are woven into the city’s identity, and fashion week amplifies that allure. If you’re not a devotee, Milan can feel less essential compared to Italy’s other cities. Yet even then, it’s worth seeing: the Duomo, the Galleria, the grand station, and the buzz of a city always in motion.

Milan may be polished, international, and sometimes exclusive, but it offers a glimpse into the Italy of today: forward-looking, stylish, and confident on the global stage.
